After a phone call from a Mr Henson today I purchase another beautiful low mileage S-Type. Mr Henson had bought his car new in September 2003 at the cost of over £33,000. He has loved and cherished this car to the highest of standards and has only covered 28,000 miles during his 14 years of ownership.

One thing that made me smile was the discount (to a cash customer) on the original sales invoice of only £270 (not even 1%) on £33,000. I’ve seen many original sales invoices for new Jaguars prior to the internet age and most show absolutely no discount. Nowadays the main agents tell me that on a £30,000 new car, a consumer would expect literally £1,000’s off – and even then over 90% do not purchase outright, they just sign a low payment lease. How things have changed – most invoices of new pre 2008 Jaguars that I’ve seen were paid in full, like Mr Hensons!
